Hi, I am Meiyi Guang!
I’m a Master’s student in Computer Science at Northeastern, and what people often tell me is that I bring a sense of clarity and calm, even in fast-paced technical environments.
I didn’t start in tech — my background is in finance, where I developed a strong sense of how to analyze data and communicate clearly. But what really drew me into software engineering was the creativity behind building systems. Last summer, I interned as a backend developer and built REST APIs that processed ticketing sales data across thousands of transactions per day. I also identified and fixed a bug in a widely used open-source tool, and I loved that my work had a real impact on both the team and end users.
I enjoy working across layers — from database design to the architecture behind resilient systems — and I thrive when I’m collaborating with others to solve real problems.

Smart Study – AI-Powered Learning Management System
• Developed a structured learning management system leveraging on-device AI to provide personalized study plans, interactive quizzes, and progress tracking.
• Engineered a React/TypeScript frontend with Material UI for a seamless and responsive user experience, integrated with a Flask backend utilizing an SQLite database for efficient data management.
• Implemented local LLM integration via AnythingLLM to enable real-time content analysis and adaptive learning offline, alongside Edge AI-powered practice question generation and study plan creation for optimized accessibility and privacy.

Bitcoin Ticker App & Flash-Chat App
• Built an iOS application using Swift to display real-time Bitcoin prices fetched from the CoinDesk API, integrating external data and enhancing user engagement with cryptocurrency trends.
• Developed a real-time messaging application using Swift and Firebase, implementing Firebase Realtime Database for seamless message syncing and user data management, and utilizing Firebase Authentication for secure user sign-up and login.
• Managed network requests and JSON data parsing using URLSession and Codable, ensuring efficient API communication.
• Designed user-friendly interfaces with UIKit for both applications, providing smooth and intuitive user experiences.

Real-Time Civilian-Cop Help Request System
• Developed a full-stack web application using Node.js, Express.js, React, and MongoDB to ensure real-time communication during emergencies, leveraging Socket.io for instant data exchange and event-driven communication.
• Created an interactive map interface with React, Mapbox GL JS, and Mapbox Geocoder API for location searches, enabling civilians to share their location. Developed a heatmap feature to visualize the density of help requests, enhancing situational awareness for cops.
• Designed and built RESTful APIs with Mongoose for managing database schemas, and facilitating operations like processing help requests, fetching nearby cops, and notifying civilians about the status of their requests.
• Utilized promise-based HTTP client Axios for asynchronous API requests, enabling the user interface to dynamically fetch or send data and improve user experience through real-time updates, such as reflecting status changes without reloading the page.
